West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texasis currently recruiting for a Physician, Associate Chief of Staff for Education/Designated Education Officer (ACOS/DEO), Chief of StaffService.The ACOS/DEO must be a board certified physician in Internal Medicine and/or Family Practice andwill be responsible for all health professions training as a education leader inproviding oversight of all trainees, including graduate medical and dental trainees; management of all clinical training program affiliations; education activities for graduate training programs in medicineor dentistry. Duties would include Veteran patient care, including particularly as the attending or record/faculty member for patients seen by medical trainees.
Additional duties include Didactic Sessions; educational activities; research; literature searches; assigned independent study; attendance at committee meetings (e.g., quality improve or pharmacy committees; participation in root cause analysis teams; scholarly activities as part of an accredited training program; and approved educational details.

Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirement for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
Approved residencies: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the listed published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalent which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
