The Manager Outpatient Pharmacy manages and directs pharmacy staff to ensure the effective and efficient operations of assigned pharmacy. The essential functions of the Manager Outpatient Pharmacy include the following:
Effectively coordinates and administers department personnel policies and procedures in conjunction with selection, orientation, training, assignment and staffing, evaluation, discipline and discharging employees in compliance with applicable employment regulations.
Establishes a climate that reduces obstacles and allows and promotes staff to formulate and practice own initiatives and perform at maximum achievement level.
Identifies and provides opportunities for the staff to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the department.
Aids in the development and implementation of specialized training programs.
Manages the activities of the pharmacy staff to ensure its efficient operations and contribution to quality patient care.
Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, professional, and courteous manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures and practices.
Maintains policy and procedures for procurement and materials management working with the Assistant Director of Managed Care in establishing policies.
Manages, monitors and controls the physical inventory and takes appropriate action to insure security loss of inventory due to theft of mismanagement.
Manages day-to-day fiscal operations and cash flow in compliance with approved budget.
Submits financial and volume reports relative to purchasing and performance in a timely and accurate manner supplying interpretation and recommendations as necessary.
Serving as staff pharmacist or through staff pharmacists, interprets physician instructions and ensures that patient medication orders are appropriately prescribed for each patient.
Ensures the safe and accurate preparation of pharmaceutical sale and/or dispensing to patients.
Diligently monitors each patient's drug therapy order for appropriateness using computerized profiles and patient history records and verifies that each prescription is accurately filled with the correct medication, in the appropriate dosage, and in the correct quantity.
Monitors the timeliness of the dispensing of drugs to patients to ensure compliance with physician directions and communicates with patients, nurses, and physicians as needed regarding medications and related questions or problems.
Acts as liaison between the staff, the customer and the health plan to enhance excellent customer service.
