The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing approximately 2,800 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for full-time Director, Development.
The Foundation for the Public’s Health Director organizes and manages a significant function or program of NACCHO, including the supervision of staff members at the Senior Specialist, Specialist or Associate levels. The Director develops the processes and programs required to implement the Foundation’s strategy and manage the resources of the function - both financial and human. He or she is accountable for the effective day-to-day operations and results of the Foundation and develops and implements initiatives to ensure fundraising results and goals are attained and quality standards are met. Reports to Foundation President, and require advanced knowledge and experience in raising money from private and all other sources. Incumbents generally have eight or more years of experience in their discipline and a Bachelors Degree of the equivalent, as well as substantive experience at the Senior Specialist level. Graduate level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
Plan fund development activities • Collaborate with the Board of Directors Foundation President to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization • Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary • Prepare President and board to pitch to big donors
Organize fund development activities • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner • Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices • Prepare and submit grant and donor applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization • Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization • Identify and develop, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities • Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information • Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts
Staff fund development activities • In consultation with the Foundation President, recruit, interview, and select well-qualified fund development staff • Engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices
Manage fund development budget • Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for the fund development program • Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities • Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend changes as necessary
Promote the organization
Bachelor's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 8-10 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification. Master’s degree and certification in a relevant field preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportion to practical situations. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. • Spreadsheet and Word Processing software experience required.
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt, TERM: This position is considered Fiscal Year term, however it is a mission critical role. NACCHO will continually strive to maintain funding for all positions.
