Specialty Certified Nurse Midwife
Geisinger Health System is seeking Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) for full and part-time positions to provide antepartum, postpartum and gynecological care. A major role will be performing clinical responsibilities, patient teaching and counseling, and management in the areas of pre-conceptual care, pregnancy and well woman gynecology. CNMs will perform care services under the responsibility and supervision of the physician.

Manages care of essentially normal women and their normal neonates within the initial 28 day period. Responsibilities include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. Well woman gynecology also included in the scope of practice. Collaborative management and consultations will be provided by attending staff physicians.
Reports clinically to the Chairman, Women's Service Line or designee. Reports administratively to the Chairman/Vice President leadership team for the Women's Service Line or designee.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Performs clinical responsibilities outlined in the clinical privileges checklist.
*2. Meets CME requirements as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and keeps continuing education, as well as nursing license and midwifery license, up to date. Copies of these are to be kept on file.
*3. Maintains availability as a consultant and educator for nursing students, nursing staff, medical students and residents.
*4. Performs patient teaching, counseling and management in the areas of preconceptual care, pregnancy, and well woman gynecology.
*5. Attends staff and divisional meetings as well as appropriate nursing meetings. Regional and state involvement with nurse-midwifery chapter meetings is preferred.
*6. Functions as a client advocate.
*7. Provides care that is not judgmental and remains sensitive to client needs.
*8. Collaborates with other health care providers to achieve optimal health care outcome.
*9. Maintains knowledge base with regulatory requirements.
*10. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Chairman.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The successful Nurse Midwife candidate works in collaboration with the physician, has a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Midwives and must be eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Current Pennsylvania Nurse-Midwifery license, as well as a current Pennsylvania RN license, required.
