The incumbent works directly with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) to ensure strategic goals, and all VA initiatives under Primary Care service, clinical and administrative and performance measures for the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), are met. The incumbent will participate in both Medical Center and Primary Care Service level management decisions, decision and policy making and provides program direction to the clinic manager and other assigned personnel in Primary Care. The incumbent may be asked to represent the Associate Chief of Staff in the hospital committees on behalf of the Associate Chief of Staff.
The incumbent will work jointly with the Associate Chief of Nursing Primary Care Service, to assist with the operational management of all Primary Care clinics and the supervision of the clinic Group Practice Chief's. The incumbent will also have supervisory duties of the Women's Health and Compensation and Pension chief. The incumbent will promote and maintain a nurture active positive relationship within the provider teams with the goal of efficient healthcare delivery. The incumbent will provide Primary Care to patients, proportionately adjusted to accommodate administrative responsibilities.
* The incumbent has decision-making authority, responsibility and accountability for the operational issues concerning Primary Care Clinics and services the fall under the Primary Care umbrella. They will collaborate across services to ensure that excellent care is provided to the Veterans that are served in Primary Care.
* Direct supervisory functions over other Staff Physicians in Primary Care service. Overall management of administrative operations in Primary Care Clinics, and performance improvement in Key management indicators such as, access, efficient and effective business operations, and patient satisfaction.
* Other activities include resource oversight, including physical in human resources management, and program management within Primary Care service.
The Deputy Chief Primary Care will collaborate with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) to provide accessible, comprehensive, coordinated and continuous care to an assigned panel of patient's adjusted to accommodate administrative responsibilities. The incumbent is expected to be attentive to patient education and preventative care, and be able to work well in an interdisciplinary team to provide high-quality primary care. Manages chronic conditions, evaluates and treats inter-current medical conditions.
The incumbent will also perform a variety of disease prevention related activities including gender and age specific screenings, mental health screenings, and health promotion activities including immunizations, weight management and exercise counseling. Will evaluate and treat uncomplicated, mental health disorders, including depression and common addictions, with referrals made to mental health providers for further evaluation and treatment as appropriate. Performs preliminary interpretation of common diagnostic tests including EKG plain x-rays, and other routine diagnostic studies.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Approved schools are:(1)Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.(2)Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.(3)Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Mustpossess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motionand stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.

Preferred Experience: Prefer experience in seeing patients for disability examinations for determination of service connection and/or disability compensation.
