Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Digital Engagement, the Creative Director is responsible for helping position the association as a leader in health care by communicating ideas through visually compelling design and maintaining a consistent brand identity across all products and platforms. This role will manage and lead the advocacy graphic design team by managing design requests and project workflow and will be responsible for hands-on creation of print and digital resources for the company and its affiliated brands. Projects include but are not limited to, producing HTML/CSS templates and graphics for websites, social media, and email campaigns, as well as infographics, videos, issue briefs, annual reports, slide decks, and special projects. The content produced by the advocacy graphic design team is responsive to the organization’s continuously evolving needs and often requires rapid-response, tight turnarounds, and creative problem-solving.
Develops and extends America’s Health Insurance Plans’ visual brand on strategic and tactical levels. This position leads the association’s advocacy print and digital creative development and will work collaboratively with AHIP’s marketing graphic design team to ensure AHIP’s visual brand is communicated cohesively.
Manages project workflow and design requests using effective project management applications (including Freedcamp, Formstack, or other project collaboration and tracking tools)
Implements and maintains a digital media library
Establishes the conceptual and stylistic vision for projects and campaigns on all design solutions, branding & identity, responsive/adaptive web design, infographics and data visualization, and print collateral
Collaborates with colleagues across the association to brainstorm projects and to interpret hard data and policy ideas in order to suit a variety of digital and print media needs—from research reports to infographics
Assists the digital and grassroots teams, as well as partners and outside designers and developers, on all projects including creation of graphics, videos and other digital content assets for the organization and its coalition websites and social media
Manages and mentors advocacy design team, which includes one junior full-time graphic designer and external consultants and free-lancers.
Excellent visual communicator; provides creative concepts for depicting important data points on key issues on a variety of topics
Exceptional design portfolio that includes digital design graphics such as, social media, website, and motion graphics and print pieces such as reports, brochures, and brand identity projects
Demonstrated understanding of color theory, typography, page composition, grid structures, photography and industry trends
Interest in and ability to learn pertinent health care topics
Communicate deadlines effectively and work constructively with team members to ensure projects are completed on time
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lead and train a team on new processes and procedures in keeping with current technologies in digital and print mediums
Ability to multi-task with a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organizational skills and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities
Independent and ambitious individual with strong project management skills who can drive projects from concept to completion
Exercises superb judgment and demonstrate professionalism (reliability, appearance, and dependability)
Friendly and positive demeanor; team player who enjoys interacting with people
Minimum of 5 years high-level experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and MS Office required.
5 years of experience with HTML, CSS, and WordPress for cross-team web collaborations
5 years of experience in photography, multimedia, and/or video production
5 years of experience using organizational skills in professional setting with particular regard to organized and structured digital file management
Track record of communicating effectively with individuals in a professional setting and from all areas in an organization
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design or comparable professional experience.
Significant Work Activities & Conditions:
Continuous sitting for prolonged periods more than 4 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day
Keyboard use of greater or equal to 80% of the workday

0 – 10%
