Under the supervision of the Policy Director and the Senior Vice President, the Policy Analyst performs research and analysis for the Federal Affairs Department, in support of operating divisions of AHIP and its member organizations. The position is also responsible for assisting the Department’s Executive Assistant with the operational and administrative functions of the department, including the coordination of weekly meetings, communication to members, and other related activities.
Assists with the research and preparation of material for federal legislative and regulatory analysis.
Performs research, collects data, analyzes findings and presents recommendations to Federal Affairs leadership team on key issues; responds to requests for information and develops summaries and briefings for use by the Federal Affairs team in support of AHIP and its member organizations.
Assists in assuring the timeliness of policy positions, bill and regulation summaries, comparison charts and related work. Analyzes federal legislative and regulatory proposals and prepares written summaries of enacted proposals.
Attends and reports on Congressional Committee hearings that oversee health insurance-related legislation.
Prepares written communications, policy briefs, and talking points for the Federal Affairs department.
Attends internal and external meetings and conferences of interest as assigned.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point.
Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills, and political acumen.
Possesses strong interpersonal skills.
Possesses strong organizational skills and is able to finalize products in a timely and accurate fashion.
Understands the federal legislative and regulatory process relating to health insurance and managed care.
Two to five years of legislative and political experience.
Experience in the health insurance arena preferred.
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, or related degree.
Physical Work Activities and Conditions:
Continuous sitting for prolonged periods more than 3 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day.
Keyboard use of greater or equal to 45% of the workday.
Percent of Travel: Occasional travel required – less than 20%.
