The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH), Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt (Children's Hospital), Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH), Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy (VSP), and The Vanderbilt Medical Group (VMG) and the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network.
The role of the Pharmacy is to promote safe and effective medication therapy for all patients and to provide oversight and leadership of the medication use system.
The Department of Population Health and The Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network (VHAN) is an innovative alliance between doctors, hospitals and health systems, benefit plan members, and insurers. Our goal is to deliver great healthcare that keeps people healthy and costs low. The pharmacy role at VHAN is to analyze and interpret data, develop innovative approaches and programs to improve the health of populations, while ensuring cost effective us of medications. This pharmacist will directly interact with patients, clinicians, payors, pharmacy benefit managers, and others to improve the health of our populations.
The pharmacist in this role will interact patients remotely and fact to face as needed. Components of this interaction include patient counseling, disease management, comprehensive medication reviews including med rec, transitions of care, and behavioral interviewing.
Performs tasks within the pharmacy in support of the ongoing duties and responsibilities of a technician with occasional guidance. Disburses and collects cash for services provided in the Retail Pharmacy setting using appropriate customer satisfaction techniques. Keeps accurate cash counts to prevent lost revenue. Provides customer service by answering phone requests and triaging calls to the appropriate person if they cannot answer the requested information. Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.
Performs activities as directed by Pharmacists &/or Pharmacy Managers in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
Operates computer systems and utilizes technology.

PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLIANCE (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Possesses basic knowledge of process improvement, quality assurance practices and/or programs. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement and ensures compliance with a federal, state and local regulations as well as VUMC policies and procedures.
POINT OF SALE (POS) (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Point Of Sale operations in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Has retained equivalent knowledge from past experience.
CASH DRAWER BALANCING (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Has received training and has a solid understanding of the cash drawer balancing required regarding work assignments. Adheres to the established procedures and methods within the work area.
