The Clinical Risk Management Director provides leadership and oversight for the system-wide Clinical Risk Management Program and works closely with Legal, Claims, Quality, Safety and entity leadership to identify and mitigate risk and to fully comply with related regulatory requirements.
Selects, develops, and counsels the risk management team in a way that facilitates team work, involves mentoring, and encourages growth and development
Promotes the field of risk management and encourages department associates to seek continuing education so that they remain the industry experts
Reaches across the spectrum to work collaboratively with members of the medical staff, administration and associates to comply with legal and regulatory requirements in a way that is transparent, honest, and respectful
Maintains good working relationships with insurance carriers, counsel, patients and families, community agencies, various Federal, State, Local and Regulatory Agencies, e.g.: AHCA, TJC
Maintains an incident reporting system based upon the affirmative duty of all health care providers and all agents and associates of the health care facility to report injuries and adverse incidents to the risk manager.
Develop innovative approaches intended to reduce the frequency and severity of medical malpractice and patient injury claims.
Oversees the regular and systematic review of all incident reports to identify trends as to time, place or person and design preventive measures. Identify and mitigate risk through review of medical staff peer review issues, patient/family grievances, committee minutes, third party reports, attorney requests for medical records and administrative or associate referrals.
Develops of appropriate measures and takes action to minimize the risk of injuries and adverse incidents to patients and associates. Responsible for development of internal and external risk reports compliant with regulations. Provides risk prevention education and training.
Oversees the development of a Patient Safety Evaluation System. Acts as a liaison between Health First and the Patient Safety Organization.
Participates fully in the annual risk survey conducted by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and other surveys as needed.
Oversee hospital's Grievance program and compliance with regulations. Develops appropriate metrics to monitor grievance program compliance and reports data to the Quality and other committees as requested. Develops grievance reports in compliance with regulations and at the direction of the Chief Quality Officer.
Responsible for Code 15 reports and submission to the Agency for Health Care Administration within 15 days of the occurrence or respectively, in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 59-A10 and State Statute 395.0197. Prepares an annual report of incidents causing injury to patients for AHCA and the Chief Quality Officer. Prepares a summary report at least quarterly regarding for the Chief Quality Officer.
Supervise all clinical risk management staff.
Provide feedback of information to managers at all levels in the effort to eliminate risks.
Manages department finances within performance targets.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field required
RN strongly preferred
Five (5) experience in Healthcare Risk Management in a complex healthcare system
Education commensurate with Florida Health Care Risk Manager requirements; knowledge of tort law and statutes pertaining to Health Care, both federal and state
