At the direction of the Policy Director, Federal Affairs, the Advocacy and Policy Writing Specialist is responsible for and develops written materials in support of America’s Health Insurance Plans’ advocacy efforts that contributes to all outgoing communications with member plans. This individual would also closely monitor federal legislative initiatives, health policy developments, and pursue other duties in support of America’s Health Insurance Plans’ advocacy efforts.

Drafts position statements, statements for the record, letters, and talking points concerning legislation, regulations, policies, published reports, and statutes governing health insurance.
Drafts, oversees, and/or participates in the preparation of the daily and weekly written reports, memos, policy briefs, and bulletins. Plays a central role in drafting, editing, and sending the daily communications on topics such as healthcare policy.
Keeps abreast of the activities of the other AHIP departments in order to develop content for written products.
Collaborates with other AHIP teams to develop advocacy materials.
Monitor congressional hearings and committee markups through webcasts, and Senate and House floor activity on C-Span, to gather information for daily newsletters.
Performs other tasks as required or assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor of Arts
2-5 years of experience working with, researching, and writing on legislative issues, specifically on health care issues to develop knowledge of the structure and functioning of the government in terms of its impact on the health care sector.
2-5 years of experience performing analyses of health care issues and writing concise and timely evaluations of legislation and other related items.
