Description JOB SUMMARY: The Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), seeks an experienced, strategic, and forward thinking Assistant to the Chair to work collaboratively and collegially with the Department Chair, constituents and other leaders at VUMC. Reporting to the Chair of the Department, Dr. Dane Chetkovich, the Assistant to the Chair will provide administrative and business support to the Chair or other faculty as requested by the Chair independently. This helps enable the Department's 95 faculty, 40 fellows, and 27 residents to provide excellent care to more than 3,000 inpatient admissions and more than 5,000 consultations each year. The Assistant to the Chair will need to gather, assimilate, and synthesize the appropriate data to enable the Chair and other leaders within the Department to make well informed decisions. A strong foundational knowledge in customer service, process improvement, and strong organizational skills is a must, while experience within academic institutions, in particular, is highly desired as the department continues to grow and evolve. The Assistant to the Chair will adopt and utilize the latest in software and technology. Superb critical thinking, judgement, and communication skills are required along with the ability to anticipate trends and problems, troubleshoot issues, and initiate solutions. DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Department of Neurology boasts a strong research portfolio across its subspecialties. Faculty members are regular contributors to scientific journals and receive generous funding from public, private, and government institutions. Grants and contracts are growing, and faculty members are focused on recruiting and supporting clinical and translational research programs focused on precision in diagnosis and treatment. These research activities provide patients with hosts of opportunities to participate in clinical trials and other investigations aimed at improving quality of life and ultimately changing the course of neurological disease. Total sponsored research in the department has doubled since 2016, and there has been a three-fold increase in clinical trials in recent years.
