Go to person for subject matter expertise in our EMRs (Cerner, Epic, Athena, etc.)
Go to person for Data Model expertise in our EMRs and other third-party and internal systems.
Develops, tests and implements complex SQL code for data extraction from our EMR systems, Big Data Lake and EDW, collaborating with Big Data Engineers, Data analysts, Data Scientists and BI Developers.
Performs code reviews and enhancements prior to code releases
As assigned, responsible for the development, maintenance, tuning and support of ETL processes from source systems to targets
Troubleshoots, tunes and supports existing data warehouses and BI applications
Shares knowledge and programing methodology with peers to improve coding performance, reusability and standardization
Helps other teams to pinpoint issues with their code and help them tune it for performance and efficiency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong understanding of Data within our EMRs
Strong understanding of our EMR data models
Strong SQL skills (advanced level) and experience with major RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server etc.) and/or distributed data engines
Proficiency in database design concepts and techniques for OLAP versus OLTP
Understanding of entity relationship diagrams and resulting system performance strategies
Advanced database development knowledge
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to clearly articulate solution alternatives
Exceptional interpersonal skills and a team player
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to demonstrate mentorship and provide guidance to peers
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
Performance tuning experience in SQL Server, Oracle and/or Big Data environments (Apache Impala/ Apache Hive / Apache Spark, or similar)
Working knowledge of Cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
Cerner and/or Epic certifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Cerner and/or Epic EMR experience (3+ years)
3 years of experience with Cerner and/or Epic front-end tools to identify data lineage and perform data validation
3 years of advanced database development, ETL and SQL experience
Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related filed with 5 years’ experience
Foreign equivalent is acceptable in lieu of a US degree
Works as a member of Big Data Engineering team within the Corporate Analytics department. Go to person for all questions related to EMR data and EMR data models including but not limited to Cerner, Epic and Athena. Works with the business to gather detailed requirements that will be used to solve complex business problems. Works with subject matter experts across the company to write complex code to satisfy business requirements. Performs code reviews and applies tuning and optimization methodologies. Works with the application and Big Data teams on system tuning recommendations. As a member of the Big Data team this person may be asked to work on extraction, build or other assignments as necessary.Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Provides direction and guidance to less experienced team members.
